NYSLRS Job Codes
Job codes are NYSLRS codes that employers use when enrolling an employee into the Retirement System. The code that you assign indicates the work an employee does. This, in turn, determines his or her retirement benefit plan eligibility.
This tool provides a list of NYSLRS job codes and a description of each. To find the code you need, use the drop-down menus to select your retirement system and employer type. Then, click “Filter” to show only your available job codes.
If you find that the job codes listed don’t exactly match the titles your organization uses, use the job code description to help you make the best choice. If you are an employer who has individuals eligible for both the Employees’ Retirement System and the Police and Fire Retirement System, please review all job codes available for both systems to ensure that the employee is enrolled in the correct retirement system.
Remember: The job code you use determines an employee’s retirement benefits. It’s important to choose the correct code, so your employee receives all the benefits to which they are entitled. Do not use a general code when a more specific code is available; only use general codes if no other code fits.
Local Employers: Only use the general code, 03600E — General Employee, if no other code fits.
State Employers: Only use the general code, 04500E — Office Staff, if no other code fits (not 03600E — General Employee).
